About Happy Tails

Helping Dogs and Their People Build Stronger Relationships

About Happy Tails Dog Training Center

At Happy Tails Dog Training, we believe that every dog deserves to be understood, and every owner deserves the knowledge and confidence to help their dog succeed.

Training is about far more than teaching cues. It is about building trust, improving communication and creating a relationship that allows both ends of the lead to enjoy life together.

Whether you’re raising a new puppy, navigating the challenges of adolescence, or working through behaviour concerns, our goal is to provide practical, reward-based training that fits into everyday life.

We don’t believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions. Every dog is an individual, every family is unique, and every training journey deserves patience, understanding and encouragement.

Our role is not simply to train dogs—it is to empower the people who love them.

What People Are Saying

Petra is AMAZING!! She has 30 years of Dog training experience, so you KNOW you are in GREAT HANDS! Sebastian (Lab puppy and our first dog) was pretty much out of control when we started his training with Petra. She is super professional, has a TON of knowledge, and has the patience of a saint. She also made plenty of recommendations as far as diet, sleeping, car habits, and treats. Petra will also send you training videos after every session for referencing (YOUR HOMEWORK!!). Her training encampment is safe, secure and has everything you will need to start your life with a new pup. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND PETRA!!

“Leia was a scared little German Shepherd puppy, but after puppy training classing she has become quite the sociolite! Baie dankie Petra wat jy als vir ons pups gedoen het die afgelope 6 weke. Hulle het so mooi geleer en goed gevorder!! We looked forward to every class as owners and I know that the pups loved it too!!! Ek sal jou klasse vir alle hondeliefhebbers en eienaars aanbeveel. Ons sien reeds uit na volgende jaar se training.”

We adopted two young rescue dogs from ODIN in Feb 2025, (±2 years old) and quickly realised we and them needed behaviour training and assistance for them to adapt to their new environment.
We decided to enroll them (and us!) for 6 lessons (1 hour per week) at Happy Tails Dog Training in Oudtshoorn, for Good Dog Level 1 training, which turned out to have been a very good decision.
Petra du Toit was our trainer and she is friendly yet firm. We needed to do the work diligently, but the results were forthcoming. She is positive, very knowledgeable with decades of experience, and supportive, and motivated us a lot to keep our discipline and to persevere. Although it was hard work, her attitude made every trip an enjoyable experience.
She sent homework after every lesson in the form of clear and easily understood videos which we found helpful. We know there’s still work ahead despite huge progress, but have the video material to refer back to.
She never hesitated to give us personalised assistance on the two dogs’ individual and different understanding and needs, and how each would interpret our cues and body language.
All of this at a very reasonable rate.
We can gladly recommend Happy Tails.
The four of us want to thank Petra for her help and we are all very grateful.
